Political Donations must change, say Turnbull and Richo |ABC TV| Q&A

If Malcolm Turnbull and Graham Richardson have found one thing that they agree on this week, it is that political donations in Australia must change

Q. What reforms does the Panel suggest to revitalise the political system ?

Malcolm Turnbull.  “… We should ban all donations to political parties, other than from individuals who are on the electoral role – that is to say human beings who are on the electoral role – and with an anuual cap.

“And I don’t particularly care wherther that cap is a thousand dollars or five thousand dollars.

“But we should get rid of unions, we should get rid of corporations, we should get rid of huge donations. We should level the playing field. If you have got to increase public funding, then that might be part of the price you have got to pay.

“But that would restore a great deal of integrity and public confidence in our political system.”

Graham Richardson. “.. I agree with the last part of what Malcom said…”
