UB1 Boroondara Planning Matters – Meeting with Minister for Planning
Councillor Healey noted that Council had been advocating to the previous Minister
for Planning on a number of significant issues for the Boroondara community and
requested an update from the Chief Executive Officer in light of the recent change of
Government in Victoria.
The Chief Executive Officer advised that officers have sought a meeting with the
new Minister for Planning Mathew Guy MLC and officers had been briefing the Mayor
in anticipation of that meeting.
Councillors present confirmed some of the key issues of concern to be addressed
with the Minister for Planning were:
A moratorium on further property sales at the former Kew Residential Services
site, Main Drive Kew, until the new Minister had an opportunity to consider the
matters which have been raised by Council in relation to open space.
The return of planning powers to Council for the future development of the
former Kew Residential Services site, Main Drive Kew.
The return of planning powers to Council for the development at Tooronga
Village, 350-352 and 354 Tooronga Road, Glen Iris
The implications of the Major Cases list at the Victorian Civil and
Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) for developments worth $5 million or more.
The speedy resolution of Amendment C69 to implement the West Hawthorn
Urban Design Framework.
The Mayor, Councillor Tragas noted that he had an informal meeting with the
Minister for Planning had been scheduled for Thursday 23 December 2010 at which
he would flag these issues and that he was looking forward to pursuing the matters in
more detail with the Minister in due course.
